Glendale wins estates contract

National green services provider, Glendale, has been appointed to deliver grounds maintenance and tree management services for social housing provider Bolton at Home.

The contract, valued at circa £2million, is part of an investment by Bolton at Home into improving the economic, social, and environmental well-being of its local community.

Bolton at Home owns and manages more than 18,000 homes in Bolton, and Glendale will manage all green space and around 14,500 trees across its estates.

Additionally, it will offer a local apprenticeship scheme targeted at Bolton at Home residents, leading to an NVQ Level 2 in amenity horticulture, and any new roles available with Glendale as part of the contract will be made available to Bolton at Home residents.

Glendale will also make a contribution to Bolton at Home’s ‘Transforming Estates’ programme, becoming involved in community projects where there is a ‘green’ element and participating in events to promote a wider knowledge and interest in the green environment.

Keith Hepplewhite, regional director for the North at Glendale, said: “As a local supplier, this contract fits well with our local service provision. Bolton at Home is a socially responsible business which places a strong emphasis on the social value aspects of the services it provides. Working closely together we will ensure that investment is made into both the environmental and private welfare of the local community.

“Through our involvement, we intend to build social value into the fabric of our service and into the ethos of our staff.”

Glendale staff will take part in Bolton at Home’s ‘give and gain’ scheme, which sees staff members donate time to volunteering opportunities in the community, such as tidying a resident’s garden or carrying out horticultural works.

Dominic Conway, assistant director for development and renewal at Bolton at Home, said: “As well as making our communities cleaner, safer and more attractive, the contract with Glendale will provide some invaluable work opportunities for our residents.

“We’re looking forward to working in partnership with such a high-quality provider and delivering improvements across our communities.”

The contract will commence on April 1, 2015, for three years, with the option to be extended.
