National green services provider Glendale has been awarded a contract to deliver grass maintenance and arboricultural services for South Tyneside Council.
The five-year contract will see the company’s specialists maintain 5.6 million square metres of grass across the borough, including around 50 football pitches.
Glendale has provided arboriculture services to the council for the past 15 years, with the grass maintenance service an additional element of the new contract.
The contract has also resulted in the recruitment of four apprentices, three grounds maintenance and one arboriculture, who will undergo training at Northumberland College.
Dave Curry, contract manager for Glendale’s northeast arboriculture division, said: “We have a strong partnership with the council after having worked together for many years, and are pleased to be able to strengthen our offering with the addition of grass maintenance services.
“The new contract also means four apprenticeship positions have been created, which reinforces our commitment to developing the next generation of talent and providing jobs for local people.
“We’re looking forward to continuing to deliver the highest standards of services across the region for the benefit of the community.”
Councillor Tracey Dixon, the lead member for area management and community safety at South Tyneside Council, said: “We have already developed a strong working relationship with Glendale over the years and are delighted to be widening our partnership to include grounds maintenance services across the borough.
“This new contract will see us strengthen our links with the company even further while helping us to ensure our parks, pitches and open spaces look their best.”
