Glendale to the rescue

National green service provider Glendale has been called upon to help Canley firefighters put out a smoking ash tree.

Glendale’s arborists, based in Coventry, received a call on Sunday 6th November at 11 am to carry out emergency tree works.

Glendale provides a 24-hour emergency response service as part of their contract with Coventry City Council.

Two members of the arboriculture team responded Leo Stringer and Sam Powell.

The team attended the site at the rear of Canley Fire Station in Coventry, to discover a hollow ash tree which had been set on fire.

They liaised with the fire service to assess the situation. Unfortunately, the outcome was that the ash had to be felled due to the tree’s lack of stability and close proximity to a public footpath.

Using their technical skills, the arboricultural team felled and lowered the tree using a winch, however, due to the ash being in an area with difficult access, they also had to fell a number of other trees in the immediate vicinity to allow the works to be carried out safely.

This enabled the fire service to gain access to the tree in order to extinguish the fire, making the area safe for Glendale’s team.

Another team from Glendale returned on Monday 7th November to remove all arisings and to tidy the area following the fire being put out.
