Today we are joined by Quinton Quayle to talk about his role with Glendale and how he got started in the arboriculture industry. Quinton is a service delivery manager for Glendale’s contract with Western Power Distribution in the Midlands.
What are your main responsibilities in your current role with Glendale?
My main responsibilities are the day to day running of the contract. I’m running an area in Coventry and Warwickshire for Western Power Distribution. We are tasked with power line clearance works on low and high voltage lines as issued by the client. We have just under 10,000 spans to maintain this year!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I am enjoying the challenge of managing staff as this is a new role for me, having previously held supervisory or project management positions. I like how Glendale operate, I liken it to running a franchise where I have control of everything at a local level with plenty of support from above when I need it. I also like how everyone I’ve met within Glendale is friendly and approachable, from the guys in the field to the directors. Something I have found to be rare in an organisation as large as this.
How many years have you been working in the arboriculture industry and how did you get started?
I have been working in the arboricultural industry for 18-years. I started at my local council as a grass cutter for parks, cemeteries and roadside verges. I did a couple of seasons before I got moved to the tree gang where I became interested in the arboriculture side of things. I decided this was the job for me so I went to Myerscough College in Preston and completed an HND, which was a three-year sandwich course, my middle year was spent working for a council in Hertfordshire. After leaving college I got a job with Fountains and have been working with some of the biggest services providers in utilities ever since.
A unique or unusual fact about yourself?
In my spare time, I enjoy carp fishing and Airsoft, a sport a bit like paintball.
