Here at Glendale, one of the biggest commitments we have is trying to get more people into this industry through apprenticeships – we’re dedicated to ensuring at least 5% of our workforce is employed within apprenticeship positions. Our tree surgeon apprenticeships are extremely rewarding and provide that foot in the door that young people need to get into this career by way of a hands-on experience and being trained by complete experts in this field. This practical experience is the very reason many of our apprentices blossom into some of the best arborists in the country, taking on managerial roles and progressing further and further in our company.
What’s included in our tree surgery apprenticeships?
We’re a market-leading business with a massive passion for green spaces, we carry out our services in the most sustainable way possible and we make sure our apprentices are all ready and comfortable with the work being carried out.
With access to all of the benefits above, you’ll also be working in a company that cares about your wellbeing, and we’re not just talking about your physical health. Here at Glendale, we’ve got six trained mental health first aiders in our team, and we encourage every employee to reach out for support if they need it; this has been a massive talking point within this industry and we want to make sure we’re on the frontline of overcoming the stigma of talking about each other’s mental health. Our trained mental first aiders have all the tools and resources to offer you help when you need it.
When taking on a tree surgeon apprenticeship, you’ll be welcomed with open arms into the Glendale team and our supervisors and managers will be ready to get you up to speed with how the job works. Your tree surgeon training will include all aspects of tree surgery including tree pruning, felling, removal, planting as well as estate management, vegetation management, fencing, forestry, and environmental engineering projects. As you can see, there’s a whole host of skills to learn and by the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll be a fully qualified arborist with a lot of experience under your belt.
Your training will also include using state-of-the-art equipment consisting of MEWPs, tree shears, whole tree chippers, 26ton Hi-Ab timber lorries, remote-controlled stump grinders, telehandlers and 3.5t – 7.5t arb spec vehicles.
As you can see, this is the perfect opportunity for someone wanting to enter into this career: we provide everything you need to become a skilled arborist and tree surgeon.
There are two ways to become a tree surgeon; either enrol in a relevant university course or take on an apprenticeship within an arboriculture company.
